The Woodland Chamber Singers is a community-based, non-profit chorus dedicated to promoting choral singing in Yolo County, California. The Woodland Chamber Singers, under the direction of Lenore Turner-Heinson, traveled to New York to perform in Carnegie Hall. Here is a short summary of the trip.
Day One: Coach trip from Woodland to SFO Airport. Board United Airlines flight to Newark International Airport. Coach trip from airport to Manhattan Park Central Hotel.
Day Two: Meet in hotel lobby, meet tour guides and board coaches. Depart on a four hour tour of Midtown and Downtown Manhattan. Tour the 9/11 Memorial and end tour back at the Hotel. After Lunch, meet in the hotel ballroom for an Ensemble warm up. Evening is free for dinner, sightseeing, and shopping.
Day Three: The morning is free for Breakfast and Lunch, sightseeing and shopping. Meet in the Hotel Lobby. Introduction to a World Projects representative and walk to the Church of St. Paul the Apostle for the Festival Performance Exchange. Each choir will have twenty minutes to sing for the other groups. At the end of the Performance Exchange, a walking tour of Central Park and return to the Hotel. After some free time, depart on foot for Carmine’s Restaurant to enjoy a family style Italian dinner. Later, everyone walks back to the Hotel.
Day Four: The morning is free. After Breakfast is a good time to take in a Broadway Show. Afternoon: Freshen up and change into performance attire. Meet in lobby to be escorted to the stage door entrance of Carnegie Hall. Sound check and photographs of the group will be taken. When finished all depart and have dinner on their own. Evening: Arrive back at Carnegie Hall’s main entrance on 57th Street for the New York Choral Festival Evening Concert in Isaac Stern Auditorium / Perelman Stage. The Woodland Chamber Singers will be the third group to perform. After the performance the choir will be escorted back to the audience to enjoy the final performance. At the conclusion, the Directors will be asked to come to the stage for the Awards Ceremony. Concert ends and the evening is open. Great time for some real Strawberry Cheesecake and a well deserved rest.
Day Five: Breakfast and some last minute shopping and/or sightseeing. Check out of hotel and board coaches. Travel to Newark International Airport. Check in and board flight back to San Francisco. Meet your coach at the designated area, load luggage and depart for Woodland. Time of arrival, approximately 10:00 pm.
